scribbles & wanderlust
Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.

--"Dover Beach" by Matthew Arnold

Gonna watch The Wedding again. Right now. And just melt.

The script was fantastic, the angles were wonderful, the narrative was brilliant, and everything about this episode was—-

—-oh.

Oh.

*ahem* Um…what was I saying?

Jamie and Claire laughing on their wedding night

That’s what I loved about this. Sexy times were sexy, yes. More like sensual. But it was full of jitters and excitement and nervousness and respect and discovery and friendship. You could just feel it in all their exchanges, how awkward and curious they were with one another, and it made everything so much better.

It’s just one piece of glorious television after another!

You have my name, my clan, my family.
and if necessary the protection of my body as well.

#that description of her curls #Jamie your love is showing

I’m so glad they wrote the wedding in Jamie’s perspective.

Mockup of a book cover idea I had for Jane Eyre.

The jacket is the fire (obviously) but when you take it off, you see the damage the fire left behind.

Outlander: Scenerygasm

It was a sin to have aired this before a Sunday morning.

That was perfection.

HOW AM I STILL ALIVE.

It’s Wedding Day!!!!!

I’ve anticipated this episode all season, and it surpassed my expectations. There are a few creative deviations from the book which I think actually work better for TV. Jamie and Claire’s growing relationship is the focus of this episode which I feel is enhanced by the changes. And yet the episode also stays pretty true to the original story which I was happy to see.

This episode really builds the intimacy, both physical and emotional, between Jamie and Claire. Although there is definitely a lot of sex in this episode, it isn’t done in a salacious manner. Instead it comes across as very sensual and beautiful. The last sex scene particularly shows the growing closeness between Jamie and Claire. Claire and Jamie are opening up to one another, and they are embarking on a new journey together.

It’s a series about a marriage and the foundation is this moment, but it’s two people who didn’t know each other and who didn’t plan to be married and are being forced into this. And yet, we had to make it so impossibly romantic that we could believe that our heroine and our hero could just fall in love so completely at that moment.
